New Museum for Haute Couture Master

One of the 20th Centurys most talented haute couture designers, Spanish-born Cristbal Balenciaga remains a celebrated figure in the world of high fashion. While an examination of his work as influenced by Spanish culture, history, and tradition is currently on exhibit at San Franciscos de Young Museum through July, a new museum dedicated entirely to the designer opens this Friday in Balenciagas home town of Getaria.The Cristbal Balenciaga Museoa will offer classes, lectures, and educational workshops and feature a permanent exhibition as well as temporary shows organized around different aspects of the designers work. The upbeat term is often paired with the word vipi (how) as in, Mambo, vipi? How are things? There are at least 20 ways to answer the popular question that I never learned in formal Swahili classes. The gap between school and street could not be wider than in Stone Town, Zanzibars capital city, a UNESCO World Heritage site, that nearly 400,000 residents call home.
